Irving Parks & Recreation Office Reno

Project Type: Renovation

Location: Irving Texas

Project Description

The City of Irving retained Komatsu Architecture for several renovation projects within the Jack D. Huffman Building, including the Parks & Recreation Department offices on the 2nd floor. Komatsu confirmed the early programming completed by the firm in the Master Planning phase and provided planning and design/construction documentation.

Irving’s goal was to implement a design for these Offices with the same Class-A level as envisioned for the future City Hall. This section of the building had a challenging, pie-shaped layout with minimal exterior exposure. Komatsu utilized all available natural light to illuminate the offices throughout. To reflect the Parks & Recreation theme, earthy natural colors were used extensively. Though the conference room has no natural light, a foliage-themed mural helps to add color while brightening the space.

Komatsu undertook the selection and specifications of creative furnishings to facilitate the implementation of the new layout and enhance overall efficiency. Acoustic elements were used to help mitigate noise levels. Komatsu’s next phase of projects with the City of Irving include continued renovations on the 2nd floor. Prior to the Parks & Recreation office project, our Firm also completed the Irving Archives & Museum, located on the ground floor of the Jack D. Huffman Building.
