In our philosophy, interior design and programming decisions evolve from the architectural problem-solving process. A successful interior environment results from the careful integration of all building systems. Our dedicated studio of interior designers are integrated into the project from the programming phase to interior design, FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) selection, and finally construction administration. Detailed consideration is given to structure, enclosure, circulation, space planning, lighting, acoustics, finishes, and furnishings. Our extensive technical knowledge and aesthetic judgment combine to create world class interiors that encourage a high quality of experience for the individuals inhabiting the space.
Komatsu Architecture has master planning experience dating back to its founding days. We have master planned virtually every type of project, including:
- College Campuses
- Municipal Complexes
- Historic Preservation Master Plans
- Cemeteries
- Museums
At Komatsu Architecture, our Project Managers lead the master planning efforts that pertain to their particular studio. In order to properly evaluate the project, we conduct community meetings and interview the owners and end user groups. The end result is a useful, detailed report that assists the owner to continue onto a successful project path

Komatsu Architecture is considered an expert in historic preservation, which is a source of great pride. Our dedicated studio of historic preservationists are unparalleled in the industry. We work with entities from local governments, neighborhood groups, and private citizens to identify, document, and preserve historic sites and properties. Our extensive experience has resulted in impressive capabilities in conservation studies, historic preservation planning, master planning, historic resource surveys, renovation studies, and research documentation. We then take our research and transition into a successful restoration project. We are confident in negotiating the landmark registration process on the national, state and local levels. Also in the context of a historic site, we are skilled at developing compatible new construction programs and recommend adaptive reuse of existing structures.
